“Joy of the mountain”
The name oregano comes from Greek and roughly means “joy of the mountain” – there, on sunny slopes, it grows wild and especially aromatic. In Central Europe it was long hardly noticed as wild marjoram; only the enthusiasm for Italian cuisine made it world-famous.
Pizza, pasta & more
Oregano is the classic pizza spice, refines tomato sauces, bakes and grilled vegetables. A special feature: dried, it develops its aroma even more strongly than fresh.
Care tip
The sunnier and poorer the location, the more aromatic the herb. Oregano needs little water, is perennial and hardy – a rewarding plant for any herb garden.
