From Persia to the world
Spinach began its triumphal march from Persia and was regarded in the Middle Ages as a fine “fasting vegetable”. Its reputation as a source of iron became world-famous through the cartoon character Popeye – and even though its iron content was once overestimated, spinach remains a healthy, vitamin-rich leafy vegetable.
Quick and cool
Spinach loves the cooler season and is ready to harvest just a few weeks after sowing. Young leaves taste good raw in a salad, larger ones briefly steamed with a little garlic.
