Originating in Asia, elecampane, was used in ancient times as a spice plant. It used to be in every farmer's garden and is now rather forgotten. It has different names depending on the region: Altkraut, Brustgalant, Darmkraut, Darmwutz, Edelwutz, Glockenturm, Helenenkraut, Odinskopf and Schlangenkraut.
